Order of Canada medals returned to Governor General over protest of award to Dr. Henry Morgenthaler

To date six Order of Canada medals have been returned to the Governor-General Michaelle Jean to protest the honour being awarded to Henry Morgentaler. You can read the list at 4MyCanada’s website:

http://www.4mycanada.ca/ReturnedOrderofCanada.html. 4MyCanada has been very active in promoting protests to the award. It is asking people to contact the Governor-General’s office every second day.

Going to Kelowna for holidays very soon

Here we see that the same sculpture graces Kelowna, as has been presented to the twinned city near Nagoya, Japan (as shown in previous post). Going soon with family and extended family and a god-son and a big boat belonging to a brother-in-law. Looking forward.

more pictures of local wild plants, this time with the Canon Rebel macro lens

These pictures were taken with a different camera.

Today, I found another interesting spider on a flower. Yesterday's was big and white with pink spots. Today's spider was yellow with orange spots. I've never noticed spiders like that before.

I never change the settings on the Canon Rebel because it is set for intra-oral picture taking. I might never get it back to where it is supposed to be, if I change it.

The picture at the river features two sets of rings on it. One is from Mr. Beaver and one is from my dog. The beaver is too quick and sudden with his slap of the tail on the water to get on a picture.

Pictures from tonight's walk, mostly wildflowers. See the neat spider.

Actually, the rain picture is not from today, but it shows the area where the wildflowers are found.

Roma

Summertime reading from Costco:
Last year I heard about the historical novel "Roma", but could not find it to purchase. This year you can get it at Costco.

It's a little on the soap opera-ish side for my taste. In a series of events, the entire history of Rome is to be covered in this "historical" novel. The nagging question in my mind is where does history end and story begin. We'll have to just enjoy it for the entertainment value and hope we're not getting our history wrong. We might have to research it afterward. It is entertaining, but somewhat light summer faire. Not finished, yet.

I HATE my kids' cell phones!

You get your children cell phones so you can keep in touch with them.

They in turn use them to keep in touch, at all times, with whom do I know.

They keep their cell phones on their bodies practically at all times, since they contain so much personal information. If I could get my hands on them, I would drive over them (the cell phones).

You see your kids for a few moments in the day when they are almost grown up, and they only care about their text-messages! You speak to them a few sentences and they have another text message. Even in the dental chair, all the young folks are texting. They can do it blind-folded, lying down with their mouth open.
